Timeless Beauty

Sun on IceMy world’s been dipped in crystal, it happened overnight,
In silence and grand wonder, I awoke to such a sight.
Every branch on every tree encased in icy glaze,
And when the slightest light shines forth its brilliance is ablaze.
The form for this work of art, it works from the inside,
And every twig covered with glass, its beauty glorified.
This awesome sight, beyond mere words, a shimmering display
Of the power of Almighty God using water and cold day.
Ice sculpture at its very best, no chisel, saw or heat,
These tools the Master did not need His masterpiece to complete.
A shiny sparkling winter coat, tailor made by Hand,
The same Hand that formed the earth and fashioned lowly man.
He who took drab winter scape and made it shine and glisten,
Can change the dirty broken heart of those who seek and listen.
He did this all without a sound in just a few scant hours,
Can you not see His Love for beauty, His wonder and His powers?
If He can change the earth this quick can He not change your heart?
More than outward beauty He makes more than simply art.
He took my dirty selfish heart and made it like His own,
By no means is it perfect yet, but day by day it’s grown.
They say true beauty is much deeper than a person’s skin,
So then outward I may be fading, but my glory is within.
This Glory is all Jesus; I’ve no credit of my own,
Only that I’ve stepped down and let Him on the throne.
Though sunshine makes this icy world glow like its white fire,
It also melts it into the ground and this purpose is much higher.
For earth to drink from God’s own cup, He pours it out with grace,
He also quenches the thirst of men who seek Him with but faith.
God of grace, God of beauty, God of mercy to Him our duty
To open hearts for Him to change our inner selves to what is truly
Beautiful before Him, our Holy God, the Beholder of all men,
And by His Son we overnight can be washed of all our sin.
Soon this world of frozen beauty will be melted in the past,
The transforming of the hearts of men will forever last.

Tertius

And who do you think is the father of rain and dew,
the mother of ice and frost?
You don’t for a minute imagine
these marvels of weather just happen, do you?
Job 38:29-30, The Message

The breath of God produces ice,
and the broad waters become frozen.
Job 37:10

A note about “Timeless Beauty”: Ice storm, January 14, 2015. Probably not a beautiful sight to the employees of the power company or to the homeless, but apart from the cold, this is one astounding work of art. Once while taking the Sunday School kids on a field trip to the Chrysler Museum of Art, I was left behind on the tour because I was so blown away (pardon the pun) over the glass exhibit. Shapes, colors and designs that were mind boggling. I was probably gazing at a thousand years of labor (or more) in just a few hours. This huge ice sculpture created by the Master was so beyond the greatest efforts of the most talented and practiced human hands, and all done within a few hours. Once the sun contributed its part you start to get an inkling of the awesomeness of our God. How much more can He change the human heart and for more than just a day if we allow Him? My life has gone from the likes of a forest stripped of leaves, dormant and bearing no seed, to a thing of exquisite beauty. You might argue that if you were to see me, but I know what’s on the inside. Psalm 44:8
