Baptism

Dead to sin, alive in Christ,
Our soul within, receives new life.
Under the water we leave the old,
We rise above with brand new soul.
The life of evil we leave behind,
And joy in Christ is what we find.
The water itself won’t cleanse our soul,
It will not pay for heaven’s toll.
The toll’s been paid by Jesus’ death,
The Son of God with His last breath.
He cleans our soul with His blood,
Oh fount of God thou crimson flood.
As we submerge completely under,
All will know, no one will wonder.
If we’ve committed fully to Him,
If we are merely just His friend.
No, He is Lord, He is our Savior,
We will prove this by our behavior.
Wet from head, wet to toe,
All we are and all we know,
We give to God, His Son and Spirit,
And proclaim His Love to all who’ll hear it.
A rite of passage for His sheep,
We pray dear Shepherd, our souls to keep.
Now we begin our journey home,
We stay the path we shall not roam.
Our old self buried in watery grave,
No longer sin’s willing slave.
Like resurrected with our Christ,
Above the surface He gives new life.
Thank you, Jesus, you’ve cleaned my heart,
My old life’s over, my new one starts.
Eternal joy begins in Christ,
Jesus, the Way, the Truth, the Life.

Tertius

We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death
in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead
through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

A note about “Baptism”: After several girls in the Sunday School class made a profession of faith and were awaiting Baptism, I wanted to make sure everyone was aware that this ritual was not the deciding factor in our Salvation. If so it would all revert back to keeping the law. I tell my kids all the time, don’t take my word for it, and check it out for yourself in the Bible. Luke 23:42-43
