More like You, less like me,
Is what, sweet Jesus, I would be.
To see all men with eyes of love,
To have mind and heart set above.
Author, Perfector of greatest faith,
You show great mercy, bestow great grace.
You please Your Father in every way,
I would also too every day.
You intercede for mortal men,
And I should plead for both foe and friend.
You meet people’s needs of soul and flesh,
May all I meet, may I surely bless.
With food for body, food for soul,
As I invest in heaven with earthly gold.
You shined Your light while here below,
May I do likewise so all will know
The peace and joy within our reach,
When we give heed to what You teach.
And may I also teach this too,
Your Words of Love, tried and true.
All hope is found within Your nail-scarred hand;
Forgiveness for every woman and man.
And may I also forgive all too,
Who do to me like the devil would do.
If sin should scar my body like thine,
May it be others sins and, no, not mine.
Upon this earth I wear Your Name,
May I give it glory and never shame.
As You bore Your cross in humble fashion,
May my own cross be my greatest passion.
As I live like You, I die to self,
For You’re true life and greatest wealth.
The greatest measure that I’ll ever be
Is to be more like You and less like me.
Tertius
And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him.
2 Corinthians 3:18 (Living Bible)
Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children.
Ephesian 5:1
A note about “Transformation by Imitation”: I remember when I was a kid I found some cigarette butts in the yard and picked them up and put them in my mouth because that’s what the cowboy on T.V. did. I wanted to be like them. Now I have a new “Idol”. No, He is not an idol but, I use the word to describe someone I look up to and want to emulate. It’s all very simple; live like, love like, He did.
