Will, he wanted to build a house, waterfront no less.
And as he drew up its design, he wanted it to be the best.
Will, he had deep pockets; he did not care the cost;
He knew the best material was gain and not a loss.
He built this castle of brick and stone, the best that can be bought;
He would not build with wood or steel for these all rust and rot.
But one mistake poor Will, he made, he built upon the sand;
He did not listen to Jesus’ Words when he made up his plan.
When a storm came knocking upon his fancy house one day,
It took that castle upon the sand and washed it all away.
Another man of meager means by the name of Kent,
Could not afford neither stick nor brick but made himself a tent.
But he did heed the Master’s Word and built upon great stone.
This tent was not so fancy, but Kent, he called it home.
And when the storm blew fiercely upon Kent’s small abode;
It was tied upon the rock and the mighty storm it rode.
So, where you build your earthly life is greater than the things
That we use to build it up when storms of life do bring.
Trouble and adversity that destroy the best laid plans.
Jesus is our solid Rock, why don’t people understand?
He is solid and unmoving when we are, oh so frail;
Sometimes the mansions that we build are our own self-built jail.
No storm ever terrorized the faith built on this Stone;
But castles built upon the sand are trouble and that is known.
So, if you build a family, a business or a life,
Build upon the Solid Rock, our Gibraltar, Jesus Christ.
Tertius
For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid,
which is Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:11
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine
and puts them into practice is like a wise man
who built his house on the rock.
The rain came down, the streams rose,
and the winds blew and beat against that house;
yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
But everyone who hears these words of mine
and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man
who built his house on sand.
The rain came down, the streams rose,
and the winds blew and beat against that house,
and it fell with a great crash.”
Matthew 7:24-27
A note about “A Sure Foundation”: We can employ every single thing that the world assures us will guarantee us success, happiness and a very good life. But if it is not built on Christ, it will all be undermined by the sand of time. This is guaranteed! But what is built on the Rock, now that is eternal. That’s a promise!
