I have wandered far from the path of fatherhood,
Didn’t do the many things I could or that I should.
But God’s given me a second chance,
In spite of self-made circumstance.
By His great Love and mercy my life is new,
And the empty things that I chased are through.
God is good, Praise His Name,
His mercy floods my soul like pouring rain.
So many years I shunned Him and traded good for bad,
Now in Love He’s embraced me, and I can call Him Dad.
Now my children they have children, they are my joy and pride,
And I pray the Great Shepherd will forever be their guide.
Yes, God gave me His Loving Grace,
I survived to see their smiling faces.
I don’t know why He treats me like He does,
All I know is I’m unworthy of such Love.
God is good, Praise His Name,
His mercy floods my soul like pouring rain.
So many years I shunned Him and traded good for bad,
Now in Love He’s embraced me, and I can call Him Dad.
I have done so much wrong,
The story of my life, my bitter song.
But He’s turned it all around;
And love, peace and greatest joy I’ve found.
Now I have been adopted by the One who formed my frame,
I hope that all my children will gather ‘neath His Name.
For this Father He’s sublime,
A greater Love you will not find.
His faithfulness, protections always true,
And forever He’ll be there for me and you.
God is good, Praise His Name,
His mercy floods my soul like pouring rain.
So many years I shunned Him and traded good for bad,
Now in Love He’s embraced me, and I can call Him Dad.
Tertius
But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him
and was filled with compassion for him;
he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
Luke 15:20
A note about “The Prodigal Dad and the Father Sublime”: I woke up on my son’s birthday so thankful to God that I still have a close relationship with my son. I was far from being a good dad when it was most important (when my kids were living at home). I’ve seen so many people who neglected their children and lose any kind of bond at all with them. God is good! Praise His Name! I had the first couple of lines and some of the tune before my feet hit the floor that morning!
