He went up on the mountain top just like Moses did,
And brought down to all listening ears words for eons that’d been hid.
Words of beauty, words of truth, words to live our life,
Words that were the embodiment of the Living Christ.
They seemed to clash in clear revolt of the thinking of the world,
But as the Holy Spirit reveals them, their beauty is unfurled.
The Speaker was not just Teacher, but was God’s Holy Son,
And whenever He is speaking, to His Words we should all run.
He had no ornate pulpit; His listeners had no pews,
But the power of His message was great power we can use.
Blessed are the very things that most men do disdain,
Just like the blessing of stormy days when they bless us all with rain.
He told us that we’re preserving salt, and light for world so dark,
And those we’ll be when His Words we live and unto them we hark.
Murder comes from anger, divorce it comes from lust,
Evil actions come from evil hearts; can you see this truth? You must!
Love is more than caring for those who care for you,
Love like God is loving those who also hate you too.
Be careful of your outward acts, they’re simply done for men,
And all that is not done in love remains in this world we’re in.
Prayer is for praising God and seeking out His will,
The things we want, what we think we need our prayer should not fill.
Do not be so over-concerned with the temporal things of earth,
But invest your life in eternal treasure of the greatest worth.
Do not judge other folks, when you are incomplete,
For there is only One who deserves the judge’s seat.
Ask and you’ll be given, seek and you will find,
Knock the door is opened to people of every kind.
Do to others, as you would have them to do to you,
This law of love is found within these Words of Christ so true.
A tree is known by its fruit, good produces good,
Not everyone with Holy claim does just what they should.
These words are just like building blocks built on Christ the Rock,
To build on mere religious creed doesn’t hold much stock.
This sermon from God’s Preacher, instructions from the Mount,
Is the highest learning from wisdom’s purest Fount.
The Fountain it is Jesus all wealth and hope He gives,
And listen to His sermon and live just as He lives!
Tertius
A voice came from the cloud, saying,
“This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.”
Luke 9:35
When Jesus had finished saying these things,
the crowds were amazed at his teaching,
because he taught as one who had authority,
and not as their teachers of the law.
Matthew 7:28-29
A note about “The Pinnacle of Highest Learning”: When I began reading the Bible on my own (not in Church or Sunday School) I began on the Sermon on the Mount. It was the most amazing, radical teaching that ever graced my eyeballs. It is still the most worn and tattered section in my Bible. Perfectly simple that a child can understand, perfectly profound to change the heart of man. Jesus could say more in a few short words than most folks can in volumes.
