The Great Abomination

There once was an old man who had two sons, though they both lived close by, one of the sons rarely made contact with his father, while the other called at morning and noon. And although he had a wife and children, he always brought his Father his evening meal. One day while walking up his father’s sidewalk with his evening meal a car came speeding down the street driven by the town drunk (who was totally wasted) went off the road and ended up on its side in the ditch. Junior dropped the plate of food and ran to help. To his horror he found the man passed out behind the wheel, his wife trying in vain to break the glass, two children crying in the backseat and fire beginning to spread. The windshield was already cracked so it didn’t take much effort to kick it in. The woman grabbed the younger child and made her way out with the older child behind her. Our hero unfastened the driver’s seatbelt as the flames began to rise and dragged the intoxicated driver out and across the road to safety. At this point two things happened; the mother started screaming for her oldest child who she thought was right behind her and our hero’s elderly father came out to his front yard curious as to what was going on. His son ran back to the car and entered through the broken windshield, climbed into the backseat looking for the lost child when the gas tank exploded. His father numb with shock watched the son he loved and that loved him burn to death while listening to his screams, “daddy help me, daddy help me.” The old man could do nothing. A few minutes later a child emerged from the ditch where he had fallen after climbing through a hole that was life for one, death for another. Upon awakening from his stupor the driver was told what had unfolded just a few short minutes before. Not wanting to take the blame for this horrific tragedy he hardened his heart and felt neither remorse nor gratitude. He did not attend his savior’s funeral nor acknowledge his selfless act of heroism when he ran into the hero’s father on the street, although they had known each other many years. Can it get any worse? It does every day! For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16). God sent His son to die a horrible death to save your life. Whether you believe it, whether you receive it, when you wake from your stupor you will find it to be true. Will you acknowledge what God’s Son has done for you? Will you thank Him? Will you reject so great a Salvation that though our minds can’t comprehend it, every heart no matter how hard, is capable of letting this great Love in. Do not forget: the one who ignores God is guilty of a far greater sin than the pathetic little loser in this story and you will stand before your Maker one day soon! Life is uncertain, death is not!
