The curtains been torn on the Most Holy Place,
May we enter with reverence as we enter in faith.
For those born again what a privilege sublime,
To enter its splendor as we choose the time.
The high priest of old had one visit per year,
He prepared himself strictly, he entered in fear.
He bathed in clean water and donned special clothes,
The blood of a bull and goats what God chose.
For this one man to enter the Most Holy Place,
From the family of Levi, of the great Hebrew race.
This a foreshadow of what was to come,
But the greater and true if found in God’s Son.
And now it is open to all who believe,
To those who love God and His grace do receive.
Torn at the moment of the death of our Christ,
From bottom to top at the end of His life.
And He need not do this year after year,
His blood spilled but once, to God brings us near.
Old Testament saints in heaven above,
Must look down in amazement at such a great Love.
The room once forbidden from all but one man,
Is open to all who God holds in His hand.
Do we take this for granted, nor consider the wonder?
Do we tarry outside? If we do what a blunder.
So let us now enter with great confidence,
By Jesus sweet blood our sins are past tense.
Our High Priest is Jesus no need for another,
Were made holy by Him, for our sins He did cover.
Can we dare fathom and grasp such a plan?
In the Presence of God, He has beckoned mere man.
Tertius
At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
The earth shook, the rocks split.
Matthew 27:51
Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence
to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus….
Hebrews 10:19
A note about “Wide Open”: A friend in jail who I was visiting at the time, had this tattooed across his knuckles. I don’t think this is what he had in mind when he put it there, but hopefully after reading the poem he will think of it this way. I am always amazed when I read about the curtain being ripped in the temple the moment of Jesus’s death. One man, from one nation got to enter this room once a year. Now by the death of our Savior and His blood its wide open 24/7. Chew on that for a while!
