HOMESICK

No matter which winding road I take, or where my feet shall roam,
My course is steady as I make my journey towards my home.
Twist and turn through thick and thin, through valley and through plain,
Meeting angels and the worst of men, through pleasure and great pain.
I climb the highest mountain tops, and sail the stormy waves,
Always moving, I seldom stop for God’s trail I gladly blaze.
For I see a Light in the window, it’s warmed inside with Love,
And one thing that I do know, it’s Builder lives above.
A Carpenter of the highest order, He prepares for me a place,
Not built with lowly brick and mortar, but gems of mercy and grace.
Sometimes I get so homesick; I don’t know what to do,
I’ve worn out many walking sticks; I wish this trip was through.
But my Lord and Savior takes my hand and helps me when I fall,
And He knows I’m but a mortal man and hears me when I call.
He decides when I will enter His heavenly abode,
Till then I will keep my eyes center on this upward road,
And ponder on the joy that day when He receives me in.
These earthly shoes I’ll throw away and say so long to sin.
Daddy will be waiting there, with great and Holy host,
And happiness and love we’ll share and in our God we’ll boast.
We’ll praise and sing of Jesus who calls us all His own,
Our gracious King receives us as we gather at His throne.
Yes, I am just a nomad upon this weary road,
But I will soon be so glad to drop this heavy load.
And see my Savior face to face, oh what a happy day,
But now I will remain in grace and to Him always pray.
Thank you, God, for guiding me along this narrow trail,
Your Light and Love is how I see, with You I cannot fail,
To make it home to live with You in glory we can’t fathom,
All saints and Christ will be there too, I simply can’t imagine
The splendor and the wonder we’ll find at this road’s end,
And the sound like joyous thunder when God says, “Come on in!”

Tertius

We are confident, I say,
and would prefer to be away from the body
and at home with the Lord.

II Corinthians 5:8

A note about “Homesick”: I left home that morning anticipating a very good day with lofty plans. The first two lines were given to me before I got down the road the first mile. However, the day soon took a nosedive and I wondered why my prayers of grand things to be done went unnoticed, (or so it seemed). I knew God’s hand was still charting my course, but I could not understand the reason He seemed to be thwarting my efforts I was attempting for Him, I still don’t know, but I did then trust His wisdom. We never know how the road will turn and where it might take us. Perhaps one day’s trouble for a scribe may be a source of inspiration for many who are oft times homesick. Only God knows, but before I turn the light out on this day’s section of bumpy road, it is my prayer!
