The Refinery

At journey’s end I make my way through veil of morning mist,
The other side I behold nail-scarred feet which I stoop and gently kiss.
A host of friends and family greet me with warm embrace,
Though no greater joy I’ve ever known than to see the Master’s face.
But some are missing within this group I’ve yearned so long to see,
They left the earth by way of hearse, now where could they all be.
McKenzie was a preacher; he brought folks to their knees.
He packed the church on Sunday; there was hardly room to breathe.
Old Hector Smith the exorcist, the finest one around,
When demon fiends would hiss and scream, he’d always stand his ground.
And what about that friend of mine who did miracles unreal,
I watched him with my very eyes, his power was revealed.
Old Ned Dowd he was so proud, he made church most every week,
And all the noble things he did the people they did speak.
Where is that old Dunkum who was baptized on his birth?
He went and did it two more times fearing for the worst.
Now all of those great people they were good and surely saved,
They’ve all lived good and righteous lives from cradle to the grave.
I turned to my Sweet Jesus and my question He foreknew,
“It’s all about who you know and not just what you do.
These souls they didn’t love Me, didn’t come when I did call,
They tried to buy their way inside and that was their downfall.
All they thought they ever owned it was Mine from the start.
All I ever wanted was their soul and was their heart.
Their so called pious good deeds, to Me were just like dung,
The only faith they had was in themselves and on them hung.
I am the Way, the Truth, the Life, its plain for all to see,
No one can come to God the Father, no way except by me.
I paid the price to save the world from its shame and from its sin,
My death it holds no meaning, for the likes of these blind men.”
Jesus, my Sweet Jesus, these men I thought my brothers,
Have trod the path that leads to hell with their rags that do not cover.
Only God does truly know what men they have inside,
But when we meet Him face to face, there’s nothing left to hide.
So please make sure your hearts are pure and cleaned with Jesus blood,
And what you do, don’t do for you, but do for Him in love.

Tertius

Many will say to me on that day, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name
and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?
Then I will tell them plainly, “I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!”
Matthew 7:22-23

A note about “The Refinery”: There will come a day when the truth will be laid bare. I think there will be some surprises. Not for me, “I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I’ve committed unto Him against that day.”
II Timothy 1:12
