Born in a stable, flies, dung and mud,
The hymen is broken, water flows out with blood.
Born in the trenches of battlefield earth,
He had a price on His head, soon after His birth.
From the Ancient of Days is heard a new baby’s cry,
This King of all Kings, who was sent here to die.
The sheps froze in terror that wonderful night,
As an angel appeared in a heavenly light.
“Be not afraid, I bring good news for all men,
A Savior is born in Old Bethlehem.”
Right then he was joined by an angelic host,
Who on God and His Son, sang praise and did boast.
The shepherds made haste and left all their sheep,
And found tiny newborn in a trough, sound asleep.
They went and told friends both far and wide,
With this Gift from their God, their joy could not hide.
Now the old man was promised a glimpse of the Child,
The unblemished Lamb who would not be defiled.
He also praised God for what he had seen with his eye,
He said, “God you may take me, for I’m ready to die.”
The old woman Anna thanked God for this Gift,
As she spread the good news, she was filled with great bliss.
Now how about you, pilgrim, have you heard ’bout this birth?
The news of its rippled cross time and the earth.
Years are numbered fore and after in accord with this day,
A greater event in all of time has not come the world’s way.
Has He paid a visit to your stable damp and dark?
For He usually picks the lowest place to enter one’s heart.
His fetus was rejected; no room at the inn,
Now is your heart so hard, you will do same again?
The Savior of the world was sent for you, too.
Will you let Him in your heart, just as you should do?
Just as much alive now in the city of God,
As He was long ago, born on floor of damp sod.
His Spirit entreats you, let Him come inside,
This Babe came for this reason, and for this reason He died.
So when this Christmas day comes, please don’t forget this,
Jesus Christ, God’s own Son is still the greatest of gifts.
Tertius
For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son,
that whoever shall believe in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
A note about “Anno Domini”: How fascinating that the whole world’s (Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, everybody) calendar is based on the birth of Christ. I used to think that A.D. stood for after death, “In the year of our Lord,” is so much better.
