Get A Grip

Hold on to God, though weak your grip,
He’ll take your hand, won’t let you slip.
Cliff-hangers come to all our lives,
We need not wait for help to arrive,
The Hand that made can also save,
From little things and from the grave.
But simply trust and take His hand,
Seek His desire, follow His plan.
He will deliver, His promise kept,
Within our lives the one sure bet.
Hold onto God and not the world,
It’s down the drain like whirling swirl.
When you are drowning, don’t clutch a stone,
When making wishes, don’t grab a bone.
Prayer the hotline from which we call,
No request that’s made can be too tall.
But placed in faith and spoke in love,
Results in help, help from above.
A guarantee writ by the Hand
Who loved my soul, who saved this man.
Hold on to God through thick and thin,
He Loves us All, forgives our sin.
He won’t turn loose who is His child,
We simply hold through every trial.
When Jesus died with open arms,
The same ones keep us from all harm.
He lifted me above fierce waves,
I fear not man, fear not the grave.
So I will hold His Hands of grace,
Until I reach that awesome place.
Hold on to God, your life depends,
Without His grip, your life descends.
He reaches out now take His hand,
We all do stand on shifting sand.
He shall not fail, His grip is sure,
When we hold Him, we can endure.
I find this true throughout my life,
All we can count on is Jesus Christ.
So do not fear and hold by faith,
His hands of Love, His hands of grace.

Tertius

For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, do not fear; I will help you.
Isaiah 41:13

A note about “Get a Grip”: When writing letters to folks in prison I would always sign off with “hang in there.” One night I considered how absurd and futile this was. Although it was meant for encouragement it didn’t tell the recipient of the letter any advice on what to hang on to. I now sign off with, “Hold on to God.” Good advice!
