Polishing Gems!

I have often compared the Bible to a jewelry box. Some of the contents hold greater value than others. I have lots of “precious stones” (verses, chapter, and stories) that have had a direct impact on my life. Not just my spirit or inner being, but directly on my physical world. I look, listen, and even feel for the message of God in everything, and when a message is in agreement with His word I am confident that it was from Him. He may speak in silence, He may write across the entire sky. Sometimes you can ask Him about something, other times you only need to stop, look, and listen. I would think that other people have had God’s word directly affect their lives also. I would like to hear about it. Not to be nosey, but for the glory of God and for the benefit of us all.  “They will tell of the power of your awesome works and I will proclaim your great deeds.” (Psalms 145:6) “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”  (1 Thessalonians 5:11)

On April 2nd we held a meeting at our house where some friends and family shared with others how God has blessed us. I would like to do this again on May 7th at 3p.m. Saturday. The only thing you need to bring is a verse, chapter or story from God’s word with your “shine on it.” A gem hidden in the darkness serves no purpose. Its beauty is revealed when bathed in light. A seed will do nothing until warmth and water is present. Further growth requires light and air. So the Bible is just paper and ink until God’s Spirit and His light shining through us illuminates. If you want to see the artistry of God, look at a sunrise, sunset. If you want to hear the musical skill of God, listen to a mockingbird. But, if you want to experience the love of God there are only three ways to do this. His Word, His Spirit and His people. To combine those three elements is a mighty power. To “put a shine” on the scripture you have chosen to share we would like to hear your story on its effect on your life. You can share it vocally with the group or write it down and have a designated reader relay the message. We’ll take turns by random numbers as before. If you don’t have anything to say you can hear the testimony of others, but remember that following Christ is not a spectator sport. If nothing else, ask a question. There are no answers without questions. I’m looking for stories with physical, tangible properties. If you say a certain verse makes you feel good inside, it might be hard for the others to relate to. If you can relate in a physical way we can all understand. Just like God did by sending His Son!

Thanks, Joel Emerson

We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete!
