THE INHERITANCE OF EVIL

Fathers sometimes let us down and mothers also too,
For they are only human, just like me and you.
Though we may desire a better former past,
And painful memories seem to tarry on and last.
Remember the Words of Jesus Christ,
The Words He said before He lost His Life:
“Forgive them Father they know not what they do,”
That’s how He taught forgiveness to me, and also you.
Everyone learns their evil from someone from before,
A sad but real inheritance, from someone else for sure.
Though everyone’s responsible for sins that theirs alone,
Somewhere along their path they learn what they are shown.
So, do not hold a grudge against poor-raising from your view,
Perhaps it was the best that by their raising they could do.
Break the chains of evil that seem a family trait,
Make love your goal for your own soul and break genetics hate.
Love your children like you have not known,
Give them kindness like you were not shown.
For evil is always subject to the power of greater love,
We can receive this power from our Father from above.
Unlike our earthly fathers He’s always faithful and is true,
He will keep His every promise and do what He says He’ll do.
And as He forgives, we also should,
Not if we can, if we could.
But do it as if our life depends,
For the unforgiven retains their sins.
So, clean the slate as you pray,
Of your elders past and your present day.
For your future’s not decided by them,
When God’s your Father and you love Him.

Tertius

Though my father and mother forsake me,
the LORD will receive me.
Psalm 27:10

Can a mother forget the baby at her breast
and have no compassion on the child she has borne?
Though she may forget, I will not forget you!
Isaiah 49:15

A note about “The Inheritance of Evil”: I am greatly privileged that God has given me “the heritage of those who fear His Name.” Psalm 61:5 in other words: Godly parents. But on my walk through the world I have met those who have not had this grace in their lives. Dogs have puppies, cats have kittens, but unbelievers do not always produce the same. When we are born again we have a new Daddy and a new family. We are a new creation. Instead of using our parents to become a scapegoat for our own shortcomings we need to forgive them (if necessary) and remember our “new” heritage. There is no exclusion to the fifth commandment. Honor your parents no matter how good or bad they were.
