MY EXCEEDING GREAT REWARD

MY EXCEEDING GREAT REWARD

Oh to see my Jesus, oh to see His face,
In that land of glory, in that wondorous place.
When I leave this earthly garment, dirty, stained with sin,
He will give a new white robe and I shall be like Him.
But for now I must wait, with peace and joy anticipate,
In God’s own time He knows the date, I’ll be there and I won’t be late.

My exceeding great reward,
Christ the King, the Lord.
I am His and He is mine,
Beyond the temporal hands of time.
My Shield, my Strength, my Sword,
Is Jesus Christ, my Lord.
Oh, beauty held by eyes of faith,
I see His Love, I see His grace.

When I see my Jesus I’ll fall down at His feet,
Praise I now sing, I’m sure I’ll bring and there I will repeat.
And join with Holy host our voices lifted up,
To Christ the King of whom we sing and with Him we shall sup.
And what a supper that shall be prepared since from day one,
A banquet like no other gave in honor of God’s Son.

My exceeding great reward,
Christ the King, the Lord.
I am His and He is mine,
Beyond the temporal hands of time.
My Shield, my Strength, my Sword,
Is Jesus Christ, my Lord
Oh, beauty held by eyes of faith,
I see His Love, I see His grace.

When I see the nail-scarred feet, the wounds in open hands,
All doubt will flee forevermore with this vision oh so grand.
The Master now bids all to come, the door is open still,
The only thing we truly own, He gives us all free will.
So do not shun this hope I hold, for you can have it too,
For you may see His glory revealed when life on earth is through.

My exceeding great reward,
Christ the King, the Lord.
I am His and He is mine,
Beyond the temporal hands of time.
My Shield, my Strength, my Sword,
Is Jesus Christ, my Lord
Oh, beauty held by eyes of faith,
I see His Love, I see His grace.

Tertius

After these things
the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision,
saying, Fear not, Abram. I am thy shield,
and thy exceeding great reward.
Genesis 15:1

But we know that when Christ appears,
we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
1 John 3:2

A note about “My Exceeding Great Reward:” This one is a bit unusual. I usually start writing and stop when I finish. I wrote the first six lines and it sat for more than a week. On a Sabbath morning after prayer, I had a verse sent that I hadn’t considered in a long time. “Do not be afraid Abram. I am your shield your very great reward.” Genesis 15:1 (NIV). Though I seldom use the King James version the word exceeding sounds so much better than very. No halo, streets of gold, mansion in glory or pearly gates does much for me. What I do not like is this sinful condition that I am no longer a prisoner to, but sometimes it causes me to stumble. One of my favorite verses is 1 John 3:2, that promises when we see Him, we will be like Him. What a great day that will be! Most times we think of a reward as payment for a good deed of some sort. In this case it’s an awesome bonus to the gift of Salvation that God has already given us. It’s ridiculous to try to even imagine anything better.
