POSITIVELY NECESSARY

I got a call from a friend last night,
Released from prison, but things weren’t so bright.
His father had died while he was locked down,
As for friends and family, not one was around.
Prison clothes were his only attire,
His pockets held only empty desire.
He needed some help, he asked me to pray
That God might grant his own place to stay.
A halfway house was his current abode,
Though freedom was sweet his mind carried a load.
His Bible from prison was all that he had,
And the thought of such treasure made me real glad.
I told him quite plainly, “that’s all that you need,”
True life it imparts when we open and read.
And trust in God’s Word like our life it depends,
And Jesus God’s Son the Savior of men.
I have greatest faith that my friend will do better,
If he trusts in God’s Word, His precious Love Letter.

Tertius

But few things are needed—or indeed only one.
Mary has chosen what is better,
and it will not be taken away from her.”
Luke 10:42

A note about “Positively Necessary:” True story! Imagine getting out of prison after years of being in and having not a dime in your pocket, no job, no place to go, but a halfway house that’s only good for 90 days. Nowhere to turn, but God. This man knew me as God’s rep from doing Bible Study in the local jail years before. So, in calling me, in a small way he was calling out to God, (again, simply because I was God’s representative). Maybe we could all stand to be down and out on occasion. “You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and His rule.” Matthew 5:3 (The Message)
