A MIND FULL OF KNOWLEDGE (A HEART FULL OF TEARS)

I once knew a man, his name was Jack,
Old Jack knew his Bible from front to back.
Stories, history and all the Books,
Chapter and verse he knew where to look.
He could quote Psalm twenty-three,
If you knew Jack, you would agree.
That he was a reading son of a gun,
He’d read all day just for fun.
But all Jack’s reading went to his head,
There it remained, but his heart wasn’t fed.
He did not take its message to heart,
Not the smallest bit, not even part.
Wisdom’s useless until applied,
And the power inside Jack denied.
He felt this knowledge made him better than others,
He thought in God’s eyes he out ranked his brothers.
But poor old Jack was the biggest fool,
Nobody’s a craftsman cause they own some tools.
You’ll die of thirst if you don’t drink,
Even if you’re at the kitchen sink.
A light’s no good to a man that’s blind,
Don’t wear a watch if you can’t tell time.
Now one day Jack, he up and died,
Too late to change what was inside.
Though he left this world in average hearse,
It dropped him off in place far worse
Than average sinner will ever know,
For he’ll be beaten with many blows.
The knowledge he had was oh so much,
But his heart and hands it did not touch.
What a pity, what a shame,
A mind so full, a heart so lame.
So you be careful when reading God’s Book,
It just may cost you to take a look.
For knowledge you gain you’ll give account,
In direct proportion to the exact amount
Of enlightenment gained throughout your life,
Of God’s own Kingdom and the Christ.
But to take God’s Word into your heart,
His Love also enters and it will start
To give new birth and make you whole,
A mine is useless till you bring out the gold.

Tertius

“The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready
or does not do what the master wants
will be beaten with many blows.
But the one who does not know
and does things deserving punishment
will be beaten with few blows.
From everyone who has been given much,
much will be demanded;
and from the one who has been entrusted with much,
much more will be asked”

Luke 12:47-48

A note about “A Mind Full of Knowledge”: This was written for an inmate who attended Bible Study at the jail where I also attend meetings. No, I don’t teach (Matthew 23:10) I present a topic with scripture references, and it becomes a discussion. At least this is my intent. This man has a knowledge of the Bible like very few. Without being judgmental this man has a problem with sin. I will not elaborate on this any further for fear that I also may come under judgment. (Matthew 7:1) Although this man stands out as a “hearer and not a doer” (James 1:22) there is a lot of this in every one of us. May we all read Luke 12:47-48 with great fear and trembling! Philippians 2:12 In this age where we have Bibles in every home and hotel, churches on every corner, preachers on the radio and TV literally thousands of Christian books and a monumental amount of information on the internet, how do our lives compare with martyrs in the time of the reformation who few even had a Bible, and many couldn’t even read?
