“Follow Me,” sayeth the Master

“Follow me,” sayeth the master, not just in word but in deed,
Through the valley of death, till our souls reach their rest.
“Follow me,” I heard Him plead.
Follow Him to the hereafter; He’s already marked His path.
A trail marked by blood through the mire, through the mud,
Sometimes through the camp of men’s wrath.
“Follow me,” sayeth the Savior,
although uphill the climb may be.
My yokes light as air, but a cross you must bear,
“Follow me,” and you’ll be free.
“Follow me,” with your behavior, the guide I’ve already set.
My life has been told in the Book, words of gold,
“Follow me,” there’ll be no regret.
“Follow me,” sayeth the Teacher,
my example I’ve shown to you all,
To live your lives true, do what I do.
“Follow me,” when I call.
“Follow me,” sayeth the preacher, surrender your lives in full.
Don’t give just a part, but flesh, soul, and heart.
“Follow me,” as my words pull.
“Follow me,” sayeth the healer,
those souls that are ravaged from sin,
The power to heal begins when you kneel.
The doctor, He works from within.
“Follow me,” says the revealer,
My light shall dare vanquish the dark,
With nothing to hide, we are seen deep inside.
It might start as faint as a spark.
“Follow me,” says the entreater,
He earnestly tells us and pleads,
Don’t make what I hate, by what you create.
For these things is why I did bleed.
“Follow me,” says our Redeemer, I’ve already paid the price,
To this you can’t add, not even a tad.
But follow me all your life.
“Follow me,” says He who was broken,
we look unto sharing His fate,
It doesn’t seem good to be nailed on to wood.
But, the crown we shall wear will be great.
“Follow me,” our God has spoken,
to a home He has built with His hand,
To Heavens abode leads the straight narrow road.
We’re bound for the Promised Land.

Tertius

“Follow me,” Jesus said to him, and Levi got up,
left everything and followed Him.
Luke 5:27-28

A note about “‘Follow Me’ Sayeth the Master”: Written in regard to a certain thing many churches do that I have a problem with. I thought by repeating the words of Jesus, “Follow Me,” it would lay this controversy to rest. It didn’t.
