Lay Your Hammer Down

He who forms the hearts of all,
who considers all they do.
He, who patiently, patiently calls,
who Loves us through and through.
He knows our plans, He knows our dreams,
where we stand, our shady schemes.
To Him our future is known as past,
it’s all like under His looking glass.
Nothing hidden from His sight,
all revealed by His Light.
Every word that we say,
every move both night and day.
Shall He not grieve for all our sins,
as we would also from a friend.
Who stabs our back, when it is turned,
who breaks our hearts, when love is spurned.
The pain we know, indeed is real,
a sudden blow, but slow to heal.
If God loves all who walk the earth,
how great His pain, from since their birth.
The measure of Love, the measure of pain,
His tears must surely be the rain.
Restraining anger that we deserve,
Mercy, not justice, is what He serves.
His hand of wrath is held in place,
not by rope, or chains of grace.
But by the nails the soldiers beat
through the bone, through the meat.
We all do hammer with every sin,
would we do this to a friend?
Return in love to Him in faith,
who bears our sins in our place.
Love like water becomes as one,
He pours on us by His Son.
As God looks down on us below,
will we hurt Him, or let love grow?

Tertius

He who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.
Psalm 32:15

A note about “Lay Your Hammer Down”: Who can possibly be more sensitive than God? If our sin is the reason for Christ’s suffering than everyone who is guilty of the slightest sin, is in a way just as guilty as the Roman soldiers who pierced His hands and feet.
