The Calendar (Our Star in the East)

All days preceding this Holy Birth,
When God in heaven descended to earth.
Each year counted down to this day,
When Christ in humble stable lay.
And from that time we count again,
The numbers increase and shall not end.
The years of history, the years of man,
Christ the center of their lengthy span.
Born to a peasant in a stable no less,
This King who would the whole world bless.
Though few men perceived this great event,
The angels proclaimed it from heaven sent.
Through ancient text God revealed his plan
Men couldn’t conceive of God as man.
As it was in days of old,
Hearts are hard, hearts are cold.
Though men have read God’s mighty Word,
Their eyes are blind, His message unheard.
Now God’s descended down to earth,
Men do not comprehend His worth.
The begotten Son, the only One,
For Love of man, He has come.
Atonement for our sins He came,
“God is Salvation” is his name.
Three wise men came with gifts and praise,
What do we offer in our earthly days?
Are we wise with open hearts?
Do we give all or only part?
To Him who offered His flesh and blood,
Who left a throne to walk in mud.
All time before and since His birth,
Point to Him throughout the earth.
The calendar a Holy Beacon,
Reveals to all whom God is seeking.
What a joy, this special day,
When Christ was born, the Truth, the Way.
And when my heart received Him in it,
I celebrate Christmas, every day, every minute!

Tertius

“Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?
We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
Matthew 2:2

A note about “The Calendar (Our Star in the East)”: Whenever discussing Isaiah 53, I always start at 52:13 because it is part of everything in Chapter 53. 52:13 says the Servant (Jesus, of course) will be highly exalted. To be the axis of our modern day calendar would be exalted higher than any other human who has ever lived. While it’s true other cultures probably have their own calendars, the fact that Europe and the United States are both hubs of commerce business must be done on a schedule. The world (whether they admit it or not) lives in the Year of our Lord.
