OUR CORNERSTONE

Our Cornerstone is Christ the Rock,
We are God’s living building Blocks.
To build His house, for both now and then,
His Love the Mortar that binds us to Him.
Level the course, plumb the wall,
“Bring more brick,” the Master’s calls.
A rest awaits when job is done,
Though nigh is night, don’t waste the sun.
We temper the Mortar with tears and sweat,
Though hard we toil there’ll be no regret.
The Foundation it is solid, true, straight and sure.
No storm can ever touch what is so secure.
Though evil destroyed temple built by man,
This Holy edifice is built by God’s Hand.
A living temple has no wood, glass or gold,
God’s true church is made of souls
Washed in the Blood of Jesus Christ,
Who for this house He gave His Life.
What a joy for the Godly man,
Who labors with God with mortal hand.
Thank You, Father, for my place in Your wall.
Upon this Cornerstone I shall not fall.
There’s not much to a brick alone,
But bound in His Love our strength is known.
The devil nor the gates of hell,
Not chains of sin, not prison cell,
Can raze this house and break it down.
Upon this Rock I stand my ground.
And when this house on earth is done,
Our lasting house built on God’s Son
Will be the grandest mansion ever known,
Built on God’s Son, our Cornerstone.

Tertius

So this is what the Sovereign LORD says:
“See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone,
a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation;
the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.
Isiah 28:16

Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers,
but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household,
built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets,
with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.
In him the whole building is joined together
and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.
And in him you too are being built together
to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
Ephesians 2:19-22

A note about “Our Cornerstone”: As a mason I know the first unit laid always starts on the corner. It determines where the rest of the building will go. The plans may say one thing, the layout by either string lines or pins may say one thing, but that building is going to be where the cornerstone is placed. All other units will line up with that one. If that one is wrong they all will be wrong. In the case of our awesome Cornerstone we have perfection in every way. What a sublime thought to know we are able to be part of the same building as our Savior!
