A BETTER WAY (IN MEMORY OF SUSAN ELLA SYDE)

Can you walk down this road with me?
Can you talk and the words set me free?
Can you shine a light upon my road?
Can you take just a little of my load?

There’s a friend, Jesus Christ,
Gave His Blood, gave His Life.
He will stay by your side,
Loving you is why He died.
Loving you is why He died.
All for you is why He died.

Can you be a friend to me?
Can you heal my eyes and make them see?
Can you dry these tears within my soul?
Can you pull me up and bring me out this hole?

There’s a friend, Jesus Christ,
Gave His Blood, gave His Life.
He will stay by your side,
Loving you is why He died.
Loving you is why He died.
All for you is why He died.

Can you teach me how to live?
Can you show me how to love and how to give?
Can you take all my guilt and shame?
Can you gimme a brand new life and a brand new name?

There’s a friend, Jesus Christ,
Gave His Blood, gave His Life.
He will stay by your side,
Loving you is why He died.
Loving you is why He died.
All for you is why He died.

Tertius

But few things are needed—or indeed only one.
Mary has chosen what is better,
and it will not be taken away from her.”
Luke 10:42

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:6

A note about “A Better Way”: I received a call from the jail where I participate in Bible study that one of the inmates had hung himself. They asked if I could speak to the men of the pod he was in. Two hours before I was scheduled to be at the jail, I wrote the words, the music and due to its simplicity practiced it enough to sing for those men a few minutes after I got there. I would hope all would see that it isn’t me; it’s a gift of Love from God above. The name in the title is fictitious. It’s a code for something else. Go figure.
