WORDS OF GOLD FOR AND FROM THE SOUL

I am not a parrot who speaks without a thought,
Who only speaks the words which his trainer taught.
But I’ve a mind, heart and soul that give all words great meaning,
And those I hear and speak give trouble or redeeming.
For God above hears each word that we sing or say,
But to think of Him in all of them, this is how we pray.
So, think when you are speaking or when you begin to sing,
What it means to you and God, does His praise it bring?
For you are not a parrot full of empty words,
Choose your words carefully and be the best that’s ever heard.
And when you’re singing songs to Him think of what they say,
And may the music in your heart be another way to pray.

Tertius

Through Jesus, therefore,
let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—
the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.
Hebrews 13:15

A note about “Words of God for and From the Soul:” I was asked to accompany a children’s choir at a church with my guitar. During our first practice session I realized these children probably had no idea what they were singing. The meaning that is. It then occurred to me that I had no idea what “in Excelsis Deo” meant. I soon found out it means Glory to God in the highest. I wrote this one to give to the kids along with a parrot to color. Maybe this will give them something to squawk about!
