MY PRECIOUS CHILD

Tell Me Child, what do your eyes see?
Do they see pain and suffering, neglect and abuse?
Do they see violence and other things that just shouldn’t be?
My precious child, if that is what you see, then simply turn your eyes to me.
Tell me child, what do your young ears hear?
Do they hear cries in the night and yelling that causes you fear?
Do they hear words that ought not be said, especially to one another?
Or threats that make you feel smothered?
My precious child if that is what you hear, then lend me your ears;
So that I may tell you good news, that life like that does not need to be.
For if you look for me, you will find me, if you listen for me, you will hear my words.
My words are gentle and true and kind. They call for love that is fair and good and sublime.
They are not words of hate and might,
They are words and actions that say and do what is right.
Who am I? I am Jesus God’s Holy Word in flesh and blood,
I gave my life so that yours may be better.
Believe in me and follow me, and you will see and hear what is good.
