This email was sent as an invitation to attend a meeting at Joel’s home. Although the meeting has come and gone, the content of the email may be of interest to readers.
In a few days it will be Halloween. Thousands of kids will be dressing up like what they suppose the devil looks like. Horns, red suit and cape, pointed tail and pitch fork.
Not such a bad chap, he likes to have a little fun that prudes don’t approve of. Most folks treat him as a mythical character like various sorts the monster genre. But the Bible paints quite a different picture of this very real entity. II Corinthians 11:14 says he masquerades as an angel of light. II Corinthians 4:4 says he blinds the mind of unbelievers. The word Satan means accuser and according to Revelation 12:10 that’s what he does before God night and day.
Most folks (who do believe he exists) think his greatest works are in murderers, rapists, child molesters and those who do the most hideous crimes. But actually his greatest achievement is the masses he drags to hell, comfortable in their own righteousness while comparing themselves to “those other fiends.”
I’ve played this role (Satan) before for the kids in my Sunday School class, now I will reprise it for you. Comfortable in your so called salvation, think God smiles down on you in kindness and love? Don’t count on it! When your faith is tested with fire the only thing left will be what is genuine. Think you know your Bible? You better because if Satan tried to twist it around on Jesus he will certainly do no less on you.
So this is the premise of our next meeting. You bring your religion and I’ll shoot it full of holes. If it survives the fire then maybe you can avoid it.
