The Journey is the Joy

Walking with Jesus there’s joy in every step,
The night is approaching, but day’s not over yet.
We walk on deadly serpents, rusty nails and broken glass,
But all these troubles we will find, will soon be o’er and past.
An uphill climb the daily grind, the Savior walks with us
Through dark of night and thickest fog, its Jesus hand we trust.
Many miles I walked without the Master’s hand in mine,
And though I didn’t know it then, He walked before me and behind.
He knows where I do come from and knows just where I head.
And though I strayed far off His path, I now by Him am led.
He leads me to still waters, refreshment for my soul,
His words a warming fire, it vanquishes the cold.
His path it leads to heaven within the gate of pearl,
We walk in peace amidst turmoil while walking through the world.
No one can snatch me from His hand as I hold on in faith,
I walk not for earth’s reward, but according to His grace.
A cross is what I carry, but its burden is so light,
I keep my eye upon Him; He’s always in my sight.
For forty years His chosen people walked the burning sand,
Their shoes intact, yes, that’s a fact, when they reached the Promised Land.
My feet are also covered with the longest lasting shoes,
As I climb up highest mountains proclaiming the good news.
Though my feet should be so weary, so many miles I’ve trod,
My step is light; my step is swift, towards the promised land of God.
Jesus, He does walk with me, yes everywhere I go,
And I don’t care where I end up, as long as Him I know.
For heaven is inside me when He is at my side,
I’d rather with Him walk a million miles, than with the devil ride.
A closer walk’s our destination, but in the journey there is joy,
My walking partner through thick and thin, He never does annoy.
Who can say this about a friend, a wife, or mom and dad,
Sure enough on life’s rough road, they’re going to make you mad.
And if I should grow weary another step I would, but can’t,
I’ll soar on wings like eagles; I’ll walk and not be faint.

Tertius

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles;  they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:31

A note about “The Journey is the Joy”: Thinking about a lady who recently joined our church and is scheduled for baptism in three days, although she doesn’t live too far from the church and has a car, she walks. Rainy day, nighttime, it doesn’t matter. I’ve offered her a ride, but she politely declines. Perhaps an unhurried time alone with Jesus would enhance our time of group worship for all of us.
