THE HOUSE THE LORD BUILT (PART ONE)

Joel's HouseAs I walk through my house in the still of the night,
It’s quiet and dark ‘cept a thought of great light.
This house that I built with my very own hands,
Was given by You, Lord, I now understand.
You gave me the knowledge that was there in my mind,
In a time of recession, You gave me the time.
You gave me the heritage of those who fear Your great Name,
You gave me perseverance that troubles wouldn’t wane.
You gave me the solitude; You gave me great friends,
You gave me the vision that saw me through the end.
You gave me the troubles that tested my soul,
I’m a better man now and I’ve come forth as gold.
Your trees gave me wood; Your clay gave me brick,
You made my back strong, You made my feet quick.
You gave me a bow in Your sky up above,
When I saw it I’d know, that me You still Love.
You gave me desire deep in my heart,
It helped me to finish this job from the start.
You gave me the land from another’s great woe,
Our troubles a great enigma, till we know what You know.
One problem You gave me, I thought everything lost,
I considered all was naught after such a great cost.
This problem it caused me to bow down and pray,
After ignoring You for years, what a glorious day.
You granted my wish though You owed not a thing,
I can’t understand why such goodness You bring
To a sinner like me quite deserving of hell.
My heart to Your Spirit must have been a rank smell.
But You brought me inside away from storms and bad weather,
This gift of Your grace and my earthly endeavor.
Now under a roof of Your Love I now stand,
I have a fortress forever in the hold of Your hand.

Tertius

Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain.
Psalm 127:1

A note about “The House The Lord Built (Part One and Two)”: During waking hours at my house there’s usually something going on where the house itself is merely a background. But during the night when I get up to meet John it’s quiet and dim, not totally dark and the house itself seems to whisper of God’s grace. As all of nature speaks of the handiwork of our Creator and so does this building. Though it was (in a way) my design and I did a great deal of the labor myself I feel every aspect of the project was a gift from God. Many times a rhyme is inspired by a scripture I have just read. But the scriptures that would pertain to this came this morning after I wrote one of these parts (which was actually the second one I wrote) which was about Moses bringing the water from the rock. I knew this as the reason Moses was not allowed to enter the Promise Land, but my reading in Exodus 17 proved no misdeed by Moses. Doing some research took me to Numbers 20 when I discovered Moses’ sin. Verse 10,”Hear now ye rebels must we fetch you water out of this rock?” I assume “we” referred to Moses and Aaron as if this miracle was from their own power. We must be careful to ascribe to God whatever credit that is due Him and if we perchance have any coming let Him ascribe it to us in His time, in His way. Luke 14:11
