THE GREATER GIBRALTAR

I was sinking in the quicksand of despair,
All I could find to grab was simply air.
No one to pull me out, though I did cry and shout.
Does anybody out there really care?

The raging flood would carry me away,
Underneath the muddy water I would lay.
No one to toss a rope, I’d lost my final hope.
There’s nothing left to do now but to pray.

The Rock, my Rock, I’ve found a Rock unshakeable,
This Rock, my Rock, this Rock I found unbreakable.
He gives me shelter from the storm,
Though my soul should be forlorn.
His strength and great security unmistakable.

When the situation seemed it’s very worse,
My life had come to be a rotten curse.
No one that cared for me or what or where I’ll be.
This bubble of great trouble was bound to burst.

The Rock, my Rock, I’ve found a Rock unshakeable,
This Rock, my Rock, this Rock I found unbreakable.
He gives me shelter from the storm,
Though my soul should be forlorn.
His strength and great security unmistakable.

Jesus Rock of Ages,
Savior from storm that rages.
My hope for future days,
My all, my song, my greatest praise.
Greater than Gibraltar,
My all upon His altar.
He saved my soul and gave me life,
My all, my love I give to Christ.

The Rock, my Rock, I’ve found a Rock unshakeable,
This Rock, my Rock, this Rock I found unbreakable.
He gives me shelter from the storm,
Though my soul should be forlorn.
His strength and great security unmistakable.

Tertius

The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock!
Exalted be my God, the Rock, my Savior!
II Samuel 22:47

The rain came down,
the streams rose,
and the winds blew and beat against that house;
yet it did not fall,
because it had its foundation on the rock.
Matthew 7:25

A note about “Greater than Gibraltar”: King David referred to God as His Rock many times in the Book of Psalms. What a great analogy. Solid, strong, unmovable, unbreakable and able to withstand whatever the world has to throw at it. Fireproof, flood proof and windproof, it provides shelter from every storm. Although a rock in not eternal and is subject to change being shaped by water it is the longest lasting natural substance on earth. How awesome to contemplate God is eternal, unchanging and is our refuge from every storm whether the blues brought on by a rainy Monday or the firestorm of death. Though the Rock of Gibraltar rises up for more than a quarter mile from the earth, it is but a grain of sand compared to the eternal, incomprehensible magnitude of our and its Creator, my Rock of Ages!
