St. Baltrick’s Shave

For the fourth year now I’m shaving my head, (and chin) to raise money to help find a cure for children’s cancer. Usually in the weeks before the day my head is shaved I have to mail letters, post advertisements and stick my open, upturned palm into people’s gut while looking them dead in the eyes, which is usually (sad to say) the most efficient way to extract a dollar from someone when they can’t see anything in it for them. According to the Bible such a gift is absolutely the best investment you can possibly make with mere money. (Matthew 10:42) However due to an anonymous donation, this year’s goal of $3500.00 has been met already. Nothing left to do but shave my noggin. This will be done on March 19, 2016 at 1:00pm at my house with music by Tertius and a spaghetti dinner. Last year only donors were invited, but this year it’s open free to the first 50 people who make a reservation. Whether you come or not feel free to contribute to this fight against childhood cancer. Go to StBaldricks.org and donate under my name (Joel Emerson). My financial goal for this year has been met, but the goal of putting an end to pain, suffering and death of our children is not met as of yet. The life you help save may be your own child, grandchild or even your own life. Contact me at 804-815-4094 for a reservation or to make a donation.

Every three minutes a parent hears,
The words they dread, the words they fear.
“Your child has cancer,” the doctor starts,
And with these words, he’s broke their heart.
They might get better, but that’s not sure,
They’d give their own life to find a cure.
Oh please dear God don’t take my child,
My precious one, with an angels smile.
But God decides when to bring them home,
We don’t know why, but to Him tis known.
The pain endured so hard to bear,
The parent and child they both do share.
If this be our child what would we give,
To ease their pain, for them to live?
Money is such a little cost.
To keep from such an enormous loss.
So give a dollar or maybe two,
What you give comes back to you.
Your gift will help to save a child,
Their pain can change to beaming smile.
Love can’t be had with money bought,
But do with money as you ought.
What better way can your money spend,
Than to free a child from a suffering end?
Do then now just as you should,
Does your heart hold love or is it wood?
