FIREPROOF

On an ocean of great trouble, we fearfully set sail,
Though our souls are more than weary, and our tiny ships are frail.
The waves and wind would do us in as the storm it is relentless,
All thoughts of safety and security we now know were thoughts pretentious.
Through the howling wind and crashing waves we hear a still small voice,
To choose to listen or ignore Him remains the age-old choice.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you,
And when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire you won’t be burned,
When the desire of your heart is of Me learn.

The river it is raging, and its banks do overflow,
To ford the rising waters, we are scared but we do go.
The rapids they would push us downstream and far away,
And when the rivers rise to our neck, we lift our heads and pray.
Though the rushing water swirls around us we hear a still small voice,
Do we listen or ignore Him today that is our only choice?
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you,
And when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire you won’t be burned,
When the desire of your heart is of Me learn.

Our house is quickly burning with the ravages of time,
And towards the end I see the smoke of what I thought was mine.
Our days of youth we leave behind like pictures tinged with ash,
These mortal bodies our souls reside in burned up like some trash.
But through this blazing great inferno we hear a still small voice,
Hananiah, Mishael, Avariah, those three made the right choice.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you,
When you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire you won’t be burned,
When the desire of your heart is of Me learn.

Isaiah 43:2

A note about “Fire-Proof”: While reading a book by Billy Graham I came across Isaiah 43:2. A day or two later it was part of my morning read. Such a wonderful promise from God and although our earthly bodies may drown in the river or be consumed by the fire, we will make it to the other side! In the NIV this entire verse had a poetic rhythm and feel to it, so this poem was half done before I started. You’ll notice the verse has not been written out because it’s for the most part it’s in there. My hopes are that some dusty Bible somewhere will be opened by the curious.
