Don’t Slight the Hand that Feeds You

Please do not grieve God’s Holy Spirit,
What you speak or think, He surely will hear it.
We are not bound by the law anymore,
But love for Christ, is what we should live for.
A friend that you love, do you treat with respect?
Their person, their feelings, do you yearn to protect?
Why not then Jesus, who suffered so much?
Have you forgot Him, have you lost touch?
He Loves you and knows you, like nobody else,
What we have in Him is the greatest of wealth.
Now sin caused His death and by His death you were bought,
This you have learned and this you were taught.
Would you raise hammer and drive nail through the hand
That picked you up when you fell and helped you to stand?
The hand that gives blessings to many too count,
The hand where blood flowed, a soul cleansing fount.
The hand that can touch and give sight to the blind,
The hand that does turn our water to wine.
The hand that broke bread and a multitude fed,
The hand that didn’t whip me, but Loved me instead.
So why would you bruise it, or pierce it, my friend,
By the things that you do, what’s not right, it is sin?
One day you’ll face Him and look in His eyes,
Will you be ashamed or will you get a prize?
The prize that I seek, that I hope will be won,
Are the words of Christ saying, “servant, well done!”

Tertius

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God,
with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Ephesians 4:30

A note about “Don’t Slight the Hand that Feeds You”: The dictionary defines slight as to treat as trivial or insignificant. Having been bought with a great price (Corinthians 6:20) when we sin, that is exactly what we do.
