The Most Excellent Way

If I could sing like an angel, but no love was ever there,
It would all be but mere noise, no point in it to share.
If I knew the future as a history book the past,
But no love in my heart, my vision would be trash.
If my faith can move a mountain and toss it in the sea,
Without any love, what good can such faith be?
If I give my all to the poor, every single thing I own,
It’s all for nothing, all for naught, if my heart is stone.
If I give my very life for a grand and noble deed,
Without love it all gains nothing, in vain I surely bleed.
Love is always patient, love is always kind,
Never jealous, does not brag, no pride in it you’ll find.
It surely lacks not manners, has no trace of ego’s curse,
Never flies off the handle or remembers who is worse.
It finds no joy in sin, but is happy in what is true,
It protects, trusts, and hopes; and will see all its goals through.
Love never fails; its power will endure.
Though all the earth will pass away, love is the one thing that is sure.
Imperfection one day will be gone as perfection takes its place,
And on that day we’ll be like Him as we look upon His face.
Once I was a little child with childlike thoughts and ways,
But when I became a full grown man, I left my childhood days.
As I look into the mirror, my eyes can barely see
Who it is that is looking back, is that really me?
But one day I’ll see clearly, my eyes touched with God’s great power,
And I will see things fully on that long awaited hour.
Three things remain through all of time; these gifts from God do last,
Faith, hope and love from God above survive from ages past.
But the greatest one of all these three which is and always was,
Is what God is and what we should be, the greatest which is love.

Transposed to Rhyme,
In its due time.

Tertius

Do everything in love.
1 Corinthians 16:14

A note about “The Most Excellent Way”: I Corinthians 13 set to rhythm and rhyme. Nothing more, nothing less. What a beautiful chapter out of God’s Book.
